1. Sip a free whiskey drink

Are you ready to party? This question might be asked when you visit the town for the first time. 2. Explore the water cave (Tham Nam)

The water cave (Tham Nam) should be your first trial when it comes to a nature discovery. You can do tubing, zip-lining, and caving here at Tham Nam. This interesting spot is actually a 50 meter (164 ft) long river inside a cave tunnel flowing out to the side of a mountain. Getting inside is quite tough, especially during rainy season, yet it’s super fun. But do be sure to consider your safety. To rent a tube and torch, you need to pay 10,000 LAK (1.25 USD).

It's a beautiful underwater caves that need a big rope to get inside. It's really a challenge, especially during rainy season when the water level is high with strong flow. But once you got inside, it's really rewarding.

The Water Cave is simply a network of rivers running through the mountainside. The cool thing is that you can hire a tube and torch for 10,000 kip and follow a rope right through the cave. This water is chilly, but the 30-minute return journey is worth the minor discomfort. Dry bags are also offered to guests so you don't have to leave your valuables behind.

A really interesting and challenging spot, where you will have to do some tubing with lifeguard ropes to get inside. Depending on the water level, you'll be able to explore the Water Cave or not.

You will go all the way in and it lasts around 1 hour with the guide explaining to you how it is like and how they made the rope in here and stuff like this. There are a few times where you need to walk with your tube inside because of the low water levels and to reach the end. The guides will advise you to get off your tube and walk and there are places which are really deep and he tells you not to flip over. Awesome experience inside and your hands get really sore after going in and out from pulling those ropes.

The process of getting inside the cave was really challenging, especially during rainy day with high flow. But on the other hand, it was really fun getting inside, especially when you struggle with the tube and the life rope.

3. Go tubing

There is nothing more awesome other than tubing down the river in Vang Vieng. The exotic Nam Song River is where you can spend most of your floating time. How can you do it? Just rent a rubber tube, available at the town center (you will be charged about 55,000 LAK / 6.8 USD), head to the starting point, and jump into the river with the tube. Don’t miss stopping at the bar to sip some refreshing Beerlao while tubing.

5. Cool off at the Blue Lagoon

Avoid the crowds and cool off at the Blue Lagoon, which is situated around 7 km (4.3 mi) from the city center. The Blue Lagoon is filled with plenty of colorful fishes and offers refreshing turquoise water, ideal for leisure activities. Try the swing and jump into the lagoon from the top of a big tree. If you can’t swim, just rent a life jacket or tube from one of the on-site vendors. To reach this site, going by bicycle or motorbike is fun thing to do.

6. See the reclining Buddha at Phu Kham Cave

Just a few minute walk from the Blue Lagoon, a reclining Buddha sits in a beautiful cave inside the cliff called Phu Kham. The vast Tham Phu Kham is considered sacred by Lao and is popular largely due to the lagoon in the cave. The beautiful green-blue waters are perfect for a dip after the stiff climb. The main cave chamber contains a Thai bronze ­reclining Buddha, and from here deeper galleries branch off into the mountain. You need to climb up the steep, 200 meter (656 ft) trail, follow the unclear path, then pass some chambers to see the large reclining Buddha, which is made of bronze. Don’t forget to bring your torch as the first chamber is totally in darkness. Also, be cautious of the slippery rocks.

7. Take a rock climbing class

Exploring the challenging cliff faces in Vang Vieng is a must. Willing to boost your adrenaline by rock climbing but have limited experience?
