Hanoi One Pillar pagoda’s legend

Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda is located in the heart of Hanoi capital and as a symbol of Hanoi. The pagoda name is Dien Huu, meaning "long-lasting blessings". According to the Dai Viet history, the pagoda was built in the year of the ox, called the Sung Hung Dai Bao 1 (1049) Ly Thai Tong. King Ly Thai Tong (1028-1054) dream of seeing the Buddha on the lotus court led the king to court. When he woke up, the king told his listeners, monk Thien Tue advised the king to build Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda, set up stone columns in the middle of the lake, making the lotus Buddha as seen in the dream. Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda was built, the golden Buddha statue glittering is beautiful. The monks go to make the ceremony, go around the pagoda to recite Buddha's blessing for living long of king, so named Dien Huu pagoda.

History of Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda

Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda was located in what was then the Tây Cấm Garden in Thạch Bảo, Vĩnh Thuận district in the capital Thăng Long (now known as Hanoi). Over the years, Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda has been repaired many times. Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda now was built in 1955, with a rectangular structure, tiled roof, each 3m in length, four curved roofs and four heads of the dragon. Before Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda was opened, prayers were held for the longevity of the monarch, hence being considered a temple at that time. During the Ly Dynasty era,Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda was the site of an annual royal ceremony on the occasion of Vesak, the birthday of Gautama Buddha. A Buddha-bathing ceremony was held annually by the monarch, and it attracted monks and laymen alike to the ceremony. The monarch would then free a bird, which was followed by the people.

Look at the whole lotus flower station as a large lotus out of the water. The whole tower is placed on a stone pillar with a diameter of 1.2m, 4m high (not to mention the submerged part). The two-piece of Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda looks like a stone block. The upper floor supported a system of wooden slats that formed a solid frame for the pagoda above, resembling a lotus flower stretching out from a lake, square pond with a brick wall around it. A ladder was built up to Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda. The unique architecture of the One Pillar Pagoda is that the whole pagoda is located on a stone pillar.

In 1962, Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda was classified as a National Historic-Artistic Monument. In 2006, the One Pillar Pagoda was recognized by the Vietnam Record Organization attached Vietnam record. It is one of the most famous and reputed pagodas in Vietnamese history as well as in the local and foreign research community.

Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda is located in the heart of Hanoi, to visit Hanoi One Pillar Pagoda, visitors can choose different means of transportation such as cars, motorbikes, buses, taxis ... depending on their needs and conditions.

- By car, motorbike: visitors go straight Trang Thi street to the fork, turn to Dien Bien Phu street. Running down Dien Bien Phu street is to Ba Dinh square.

Here, visitors can send the car at two addresses: Ong Ich Khiem - opposite the management and 19 Ngoc Ha street - the Ho Chi Minh museum entrance, then walk into the mausoleum entrance.

Bus stops near Uncle Ho's mausoleum are No. 09 (Direction: Bo Ho - Cau Giay - Bo Ho), No. 18 (Directions: Bach Khoa - Long Bien - Chua Boc - Bach Khoa), 33 (Direction: Xuan Dinh - My Dinh bus station.
